On watching Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead


The first thing I did this morning, once I'd woken up, was to plonk myself down in front of the computer and watch the new Doctor Who Easter special, Planet of the Dead. And what a marvellous romp it is - far stronger than the Christmas special, The Next Doctor, with sterling performances, a great script, and some truly exciting moments that had me squee-ing with fanboy joy.

If you want to watch it, but don't want to break the law by downloading the program illegally - and after all, who'd do a naughty thing like that? - then I advise you to click here and visit the excellent blog, Life, Doctor Who and Combom where you can view the entire episode embedded via YouTube. Hurrah!

Now we only have to wait several more months until the next special - The Waters of Mars...

As to when Planet of the Dead will air on the ABC, they're still not saying anything other than "'Planet of the Dead' will air on the ABC over Winter this year. An exact date will be announced closer to broadcast." - which ain't exactly helpful. Don't they realise how desperate we are to see this episode in all its hi-def glory?!

I did the same thing this morning, though I may have downloaded it. I really enjoyed the episode & can't wait for the next lot.

It didn't do it for me; I liked the Christmas one better. And someone needs to tie Murray Gold's hands together and gag him. (Better him gagging than I.)

Watched it ... not sure where it fits in the hierarchy of my Dr Who delights... Was most enjoyable, although I was expecting Torchwood to show up rather than Unit...

Precisely. ABC = fail. They should be able to show it here within a day of it being on the BBC. Or they should at least explain the licinsing limitation to their audience. BTW I enjoyed this special too!

Recent Call of Cthulhu work for the Miskatonic Repository

The last time I posted on this poor, neglected blog was in August 2023, and a lot has happened since then - I've been meaning to blog about it for ages, but time got away from me. So, consider this post a quick catch-up on some of the creative work I've been doing over the last 12 months or so. The streets of old Fitzroy

I've lived in Fitzroy for 14 years, and long before I moved here spent some formative moment in its pubs and terrace houses. I have an unpublished novel that set's in Fitzroy in the 1940s (originally it was set in the 1950s but I've realised it was the wrong period). I love this suburb, even as it changes before my eyes, which is why I love articles and photographs and stories of its past.   From the Herald-Sun , here's a series of images of the old inner city slums that once characterised much of Fitzroy.
